Nezaket Ekici was born in Kırşehir in 1970. Since 1973 she has lived and worked in Berlin and Stuttgart. In 1993, she received a degree on layout operator and printing plate training in Duisburg and Munich. In 2000, she completed her Master’s degree on Art Pedagogy and Art History with Prof. Wolfgang Kehr at Ludwig Maximilians Universitat Munich. Between 1996 and 2000 she studied sculpture with Prof. Heribert Sturm at Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. Ekici continued her study with Prof. Dr. Marina Abramoviç at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Brauschweig between 2001 and 2003, and received a MFA degree in 2004.
The idea, the thought and the draft are the bases for the execution of her artwork. Ideas come from everyday life situations, social and cultural atmospheres. Then the idea expresses itself in the performances and installation art. Ekici also uses the body as a means of expression. The subjects she deals with are time, movement, space, material, body, and action/interaction. She tries to create works of art that leave for the viewer, free space for associations and new possibilities. She aims to create art where all of the elements are connected together to form a whole work of art.
Ekici has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Germany and abroad. She has also published her book, Rezeptionsästhetische Theorien und deren praktische Anwendung bei der Vermittlungsarbeit im Museum, aufgezeigt anhand des Gemäldes ‘Die Vision des heiligen Franziskus’ von Carlo Sareceni in der Alten Pinakothek München (München 2000) and some articles for exhibition catalogues.
